Overall Description:

A rather pretty woman, Zurianna is the type of female who turns head wherever she goes. With her dark skin and darker hair, she shows all the marks of coming from a family line of desert descent. She looks just like her mother, who came from a family in Igen, rather than her paler skinned Tillek bred father.

Her build is lithe, her figure all sleek and well defined muscles without being bulky. What weight she does carry is centred in her bosom and hips, giving her a nicely feminine set of curves.

Zuri likes to look nice and her choices of clothing reflect that. She picks her clothing based on what suits her rather than what is most popular at the time. She understands that one well made dress will ay for itself many times over, when a poorly made dress will cost more in the end in needing replacing. Thus she as a modest wardrobe, filled with things which are tailored specifically to her.

Overall Description:

Zurianna is a bit of a flirt. She loves to dress up and tease the ones ho look, be they male or female. While she is not adverse to women, she does have a preference for male companionship. Either way however, she chooses though she allows to get physically close to her with great care. She prefers to get to know a person before letting them into her life.

A social creature, Zuri loves people. There are few things she enjoys more than to be surrounded by others, be they a grouping of friends of a crowd of people at the gather.

It might seem an odd passion to some, but Zurianna has a love for records, the older the better. She finds joy in transcribing them, taking the old and crumbling writings of stories and facts and restoring them to a state in which others can enjoy them.

A perfectionist by nature, Zuri shows some distinct Obsessive-Compulsive tendencies, though not so badly that it might be termed an actual disorder. Her obsessiveness shows itself in her dedication to her work, and the way she will fuss over it, trying to get everything exactly right before she can be happy putting it aside or showing it to others. It also shows in her unwillingness to do certain things, such as singing outside of a chorus group, for she finds herself embarrassed by being unable to do something to the high standards which she expects of herself.

Family oriented, Zurianna has always made sure to be a part of her children's lives. Though there have always been others to help her look after them, Zuri was raised to the belief that even if you can't be there all the time, a child should always know who it's parents are and never doubt that they are loved. Her own father was a ship captain and though she did not see him often during most of the turn, she never once doubted that he was there and he loved her and that he would care for her no matter what. How could she offer anything less to her own children?

Background:

Age 0 - 5
Zurianna is the youngest child, and only daughter of Journeywoman Harper Annavela and her husband Captain Zurin of the cargo ship Sea's Heart. As both the youngest and the only daughter, Zuri is doted upon by her parents.

Age 5 - 12
Zuri takes to her early teaching like a shipfish to water. As soon as she learns her letters, she takes to reading everything she can get her hands on, even things which really probably were not suited to being read by a girl of her age.

Age 12 - 16
Zurianna apprentices as a harper. Though she has a decent voice, she is not soloist quality and she has no talent for making the more intricate types of instruments. She develops some skill with the harp and a strong knowledge of drum-code but her true talent lays within the archives, with her neat and steady hand and her amazing capacity for storing knowledge.

Age 16 - 18
When Zuri turns sixteen, she has her first sexual experience, getting drunk and fooling around with a boy from a trader caravan. Shortly afterwards the caravan moves on and Zurianna forgets about the boy, at least for a couple of months. Then she begins feeling ill, and constantly tired. After much poking and prodding from the healers, Zurianna is declared to be pregnant. When she gives birth to a baby girl, she names the child, Annazuri.

Age 18 - 19
Walking the tables, Zurianna is assigned to a good sized holding located high in the Central Range. Through the summer and fall she makes her rounds to the smaller holdings, but the winter comes quickly that high in the mountains and she finds herself confined to the assigned holding.

The eldest son of the holder has been mooning after Zurianna throughout the warmer seasons and now that they are confined to the holding and it's immediate surrounds, he begins to press his suit. The more Zurianna says no, the harder he pushes. During the mid winter celebrations for the passing of the longest night of the turn, Zurianna finds herself far more tipsy than she should be the amount she has to drink, though she passes this off at the time as the fact that she has not drunk more than a single glass in some time. She wakes the next morning sore and sticky and with the boy asleep on top of her.

Over the course of the winter months, it slowly becomes more and more obvious that Zurianna is pregnant. The holders begin to speak of spring weddings and extensions to the holding to add a new two person room. They treat the pair as though they were already bonded and make it clear that they expect Zuri to be joining the boy in his bed and giving him husbandly rights to her. The thought of being forced into a marriage terrifies Zurianna, especially one to someone she does not particularly like and would not have invited into her bed had she been in her right mind. Quietly she makes her plans, bundling away supplies of food and warm clothing for when she makes her escape.

When the thaw comes in mid spring, Zurianna is ready, slipping away with her daughter in the middle of the night. She is, at this point, rather noticeably pregnant and the going is more difficult than she had expected. When she falls and struggles to get back to her feet, Zuri is saved by, of all things, a dragon. Kinnath, a young Dou, and his rider, a woman by the name of Tian, spotted her struggling from the air and came to help. They free her from the snow and Kinnath watches over Annazuri as Tian speaks with Zurianna. The two young women get along fairly well and strike a deal quickly. Tian and Kinnath will take Zurianna and Annazuri to the safety of the weyr where the holders can not reach her, making the long straight flight to Sabishi, in exchange for Zurianna taking up as a candidate once she has given birth.

The trip is long and takes several days, as Kinnath will not fly at night and they have to take many breaks during the day to allow Zuri and Anna to rest. Still, it is worth it when they arrive at the weyr and Zuri is almost overcome by the sense of relief at being finally free. When she gives birth to a daughter, Zuri names her Tianna, for the woman who saved them.

Age 19 - 20
Zurianna slowly settles into life at the weyr. She is forbidden to contact her family, as are all the candidates, but Zuri convinces Tian to smuggle a letter to a runner station, which from there is handed from runner to runner until it reaches Tillek and her family. It says only that she is okay but that they likely wont be hearing from her for a while. It is only the truth after all, for she will either be released upon ageing out of candidacy, at which point it would be safe to speak to her family again, or she will become a rider, at which point there will not be much which she can not do.

The records at Sabishi amaze her and Zuri will often reflect that she could quite happily spend the rest of her life among them. To help feel as though she is earning her keep, Zurianna sets to finding and transcribing the oldest of the weyr's records, familiarize herself with their history even as she works to preserve it for future generations to do the same.

Age 20 - 22
There are a few times during these turns that Zurianna thinks she may impress, when hatchling dragons stand before her that little too long. Each time however the young dragon moves on and Zuri returns to life as a candidate. She throws herself more into her work for a time after each failed hatching, though she continues to make time for her children.

Age 22 - 23
With another birthday been and gone, Zurianna begins to worry that perhaps Kinnath made a mistake when he declared her candidate material. She wonders if a dragon can sense the mind of an unborn infant and if said infant might already show the potential for impression. If such were true, then perhaps Kinnath had sensed Tianna, and not her. After one particularly stressful hatching, Zuri and Tian get drunk in Tian's weyr and Zuri confesses her worries that she might not rightly be a candidate after all. Tian, in an effort to reassure her, wakes Kinnath up and makes the Dou sniff her again. Kinnath, while unamused at being woken up, tells them both that they are drunk and that he is never wrong, Zuri is as good a potential match now as she was when he first picked her and that her match simply has not been hatched yet.
