It had been a long day for Zurianna. There had been the usual round of lessons and exercise and chores, which could be tiring in and of itself, even with several turns to get used to it. Then there had been her latest stint in the archives, with a very old record, one which was just about crumbling in her hands and with writing so small that it must have been difficult to read even when it had been new. The work had left with her the niggling start of a headache, but also a sense of exhausted pride at having successfully completed her work.
There was a wineskin on the low table in front of the comfortable couch which Zuri currently occupied, a glass held lightly in her hands. The couch itself was a touch threadbare, as would be expected of something which had been given into the care of generations of rider hopefuls. Overall though, Zurianna found the common room a rather comfortable place, despite the way everyone always seemed to be making a mess of the place. Perhaps that was why she found it relaxing, the common room being a place where there was supposed to be a certain amount of mess and chaos and where she wasn't responsible for it's state.
With a sigh, Zuri balanced her glass on the arm of the chair and rubbed her temples with the tips of her fingers, trying to push back the start of a headache.

Itessi was freshly washed after being covered in dust, today was inventory day and she had been knee deep in stock all day, so when she walked into the common room she was fairly glowing with warmth and calm. It had been a long day but she had made a huge dent in recording what all was down in the stores and had settled up a few new helpers in the process. With her hair freshly braided she snagged a cup of water and saw Zuri on the couch. The other girl was a candidate of course and so they were acquainted enough that Itessi felt comfortable enough to approach her and sit on a chair close by.
"You look beat Zuri. Long day?" she asked and smiled at the other girl. Zuri and Essi were a so different in looks but both were equally attractive in their own right and exotic looking as well. Zuri was smokey looking to Essi in a way the other girl knew she could never aspire to. Essi was sweet looking and exotic in her own right but she was a Lady in coloring and build and she was always a bit jealous of any girl that had a sexy look. Women like that could bend people to their wills without even realizing it. Not that she wanted to bend people to her will but it was admirable and strong in it's own. way.
"I swear I can still smell the dust of the stock caves, I never sneezed so much in my life. I feel bad for the kids I enlisted to help clean the place up." she said with a giggle as she sipped her water to help her dry throat.
Zuri looked up as she was joined by another young woman. She smiled as she saw who it was. She didn't know Itessi well, but she did recall seeing the girl around the Harper turns ago when Zuri had been in her last turns as an apprentice and Itessi had been a Lady learning the art of song, as many of the Blooded women who had a vocal ability did. Zurianna was under the impression that it was considered a talent which would increase a woman's worth as a bride.
"Not so much long as tiring" She replied. "I've been working with some of the oldest records in the archives here and their in terrible condition." Picking up the wine skin, Zuri offered it the Itessi. "Even with the best conditions for working with them, their difficult to read"

As a former Miner in her home Hold, Seryn's chores around the Weyr tended more toward manual labor. It didn't bother her, gave her something to focus her mind on and at the end of her chores, she was able to go back to the barracks and rest, after lessons of course. Couldn't forget those all important lessons, now could we. As it was, as she stepped into the barracks and her guards took up their relaxed position just outside the Candidate Barracks, Seryn found that she wasn't the only one that found the common room a relaxing place. It seemed two other young woman had the same idea.
She searched her mind for names and ranks. Zurianna, a Harper, and Itessi, another Harper and she seemed to remember hearing the word Lady thrown around a time or two around her. Either way, she suddenly felt both dirty, for being covered in a nice layer of dust and dirt from helping the farmers dig out a new field, especially with a smudge of dirt across her forehead she didn't even know about.
Either way: Try to fit in, was her number one goal. Make an effort
Taking a deep breath, she stepped toward the two woman that were roughly her age, smiled, and waved her hand at them. "Hi there," she stated, her voice a little shaky, but strong.

Smiling at Zuri she gulped back her water and took the wine to poor herself a glass. Putting it back she shook her head. "I would love to get down into the records room and see these though I know it can be very exhausting on the eyes. I used to get into the ones at the Harper hall, and there were always so many interesting things written. I'm dead curious to see what a Weyr has written down." she laughed softly. Her nature was to love all things she could learn from and her mind was in a whirl of thoughts now that she knew that was what Zuri had been up to. Maybe she could ask the candidate master for a shot at copying some of the records for them. She had a lovely hand and she was very neat. "Though if you are good at copying records maybe I can convince you to come help with the inventory tomorrow." she smiled wickedly. Most people avoided the store caves for this reason.
Seeing another girl walk in covered in dust Essi couldn't help but smile in sympathy. "Oh dear you look about as worse for wear as I did before I dunked myself in a bathing pool. Apparently the candidate master wanted all us girls worn out and covered in dust today. Seyrn right? Where did they put you today?" She patted the chair next to her and ran to grab a cup of cool water for the girl who could probably use it. "I swear the weyr makes no distinction here and I love that and at the same time I would prefer to be on pen mucking duty as little as possible." she grinned again.
