It was a hot day. Tiona didn't have any tasks for the day, so she had decided to take a trip to the ocean. She had just the place in mind too. The abandoned Ista island. The weather would be balmy and the water pleasantly warm. So she hopped on Iruth's back and the two took off, popping between after Iruth was in the air.
Tiona only shivered for a moment, as she had her wherhide jacket drapped across her lap. She knew once she hit the sun again, it would be too hot, so she suffered a slight discomfort as the chill of between followed her.
I see a nice beach with a good tree for shade. Iruth told her rider, angling down to land.
"Good, let's go there." Tiona replied, grinning.
She slid off of Iruth when they touched down, giving the dragon an affectionate slap before finding the tree Iruth had mentioned and sat down. Iruth on the other hand, turned and walked straight into the water. She dove, but came back up quickly, shaking her head. She spread her wings on top of the water, content to float for the moment.
Tiona dug into her bag, finding the meatrolls she had packed for her lunch. She was just about to take a bite when Iruth's head snaked up and looked at something Tiona couldn't see. "Iruth?" She asked, puzzled.
Shh. There is something on the beach. A few somethings, actually. Iruth said, her eyes locked on the sight.
She tilted her head, moving slowly as she stood up.
There! Iruth said, her nose following a bright green shape. Feel that? She asked, before starting to softly rumble.
Tiona did. While it wasn't loud, she was definitely hearing something. Could it be? She had heard rumors of course, but didn't know if they had any merit. She tried to keep as quiet as possible as she crept closer to the event that had captured Iruth's attention.
Wow! It was them! She thought excitedly to herself, watching the little creatures with wide eyes. Firelizards... They had always been a creature of fancy, but seeing the tiny miniature dragons in person was a whole new experience. The green shape turned out to be a Midori, and she had a rainbow of a flock with her.
Look! Eggs! Iruth said excitedly. Can we get one? She asked, her eyes whirling. Tiona glanced at the sand. Sure enough, there were eggs nestled there. Quite a few too. Can you scare them off? I can't get to them if they get protective.
Iruth rumbled again, coming back to the beach proper. placing her claws carefully, so as to not squish any of the eggs, she moved towards the faire of Firelizards, growling, then roaring, causing a ruckus of startled cheeps and the eggs were suddenly clear, leaving just Tiona and Iruth. Iruth kept it up, growling anytime one tried coming back. A couple times, the small creatured tried diving at the dragon, like they were going to attack, but she didn't flinch or shy away, sending them all dark thoughts to keep them scared.
While Iruth was doing that, Tiona emptied her bag, tossing the food out. She carefully filled her bag with the eggs, using her jacket to cradle them. It wasn't a big clutch, no bigger than the clutch Nagith had on the Sands, but they were all good sized. Hard too, which meant they weren't far from hatching, if Tiona was judging right. After double checking that the eggs were properly covered, she mounted Iruth. " Quick! Back to the Weyr," she said, picturing the weyrbowl clearly in her mind.
