Overall Description:
When one thinks of a smith, the mind usually conjures and image of a large and brawny man with massive muscles, streaked with soot and ash. While Lex can certainly match the second half of that image well enough at times, he is not a man of bulky figure. Lex has a figure which is better described as lithe, with a V shaped build of broad shoulders leading into a narrow waist. While he does have a rather well defined set of muscles, he is not one to the stocky type to carry the massive bulk of muscle which some expect of a smith, instead being comprised largely of lean muscles which lay flat against each other.

With his full head of thick black hair falling in loose curls, Lex used to look a little girly when he was child. No days however, having growing in masculine features, sporting a scruffy beard and with his curls usually pulled back into a short tail, no-one will be mistaking Lex for being anything other than what he is.

Overall Description:

A sociable person, Ailexyan is someone who does best when surrounded by other people. This is not to say that he doesn't have his moments when he wishes to be alone, but for the most part he prefers not to be alone. He makes friends fairly easily, having a large social circle. Lex doesn't discriminate in who makes a candidate for his friendship, everyone is given a chance.

Lex could easily be described as being 'annoyingly cheerful'. He has a pleasant temperament, with a strongly positive outlook upon life. He tends to bounce back quickly from disappointments or upsets, rarely dwelling on that which he can not change. He doesn't shy away from his feelings the way some young men do, but neither does he feel the feel to shout them about for all to hear.

Extremely loyal, Lex is someone who can always be counted on to have your back, whether its in a fight, or an argument, or simply needing some emotional support.

Background:

Age 0 - 5
Though Tirokanth and Therometh were attached to each other, Ailex and Y'nem were simply friends, with no physical attraction to each other outside of Tirokanth's flights. Neither were of a particularly parental mindset and Ailexyan, like the rest of their children, were handed to the creche as soon as possible. Though he knows his parents names and ranks, something the creche-caretakers ensured so that he would know when he came into contact with any of his half-siblings, they are nothing more than words to Lex. His foster mother, Avila, is the only parental figure in his life.

Age 5 - 10
An active little boy, getting Lex to pay attention to his lessons is a hard task for the weyr's teachers. He is far more interested in being outside and running around than he is in being stuck indoors learning things which he does not think will ever be important. Being a smart lad, Lex is easily bored and if he doesn't find the lessons immediately interesting, then getting him to pay attention is a difficult task. It is only through great patience and perseverance that his teacher gets Lex through his early lessons.

Age 10 - 12
During his wanderings of the weyr, Lex encounters the forge. He is immediately fascinated by the sight of the smiths going about their work and the way their hands could bring into being so many things. He watched the creation of fierce weapons and of simple tools whose existence he had never before questioned and delicate bits of decoration which were stronger than they appeared.

Age 12 - 15
Lex apprentices with the weyr's smiths. It is hard work, but it is work he enjoys and learning with his hands is far easier to him than the sitting lessons of the harper-teacher. At the same time, he is of age to stand and the weyr needs all the candidates it can get. He has grown up watching the dragons and their riders and wondering what it would be like to have such a bond. Lex takes a place in the candidate barracks, standing for impression when there is a clutch on the sands, and throwing himself completely into his craft during the rest of the time.

Age 15 - 18
After several standings, Lex begins to get discouraged about his chances of impression. He makes friends with an older girl named Leela, another serial candidate. They grow close swiftly, and during Lex's seventeenth turn, they become physically intimate.

Age 18 - 20
When Lex is eighteen Leela impresses to Murasaki Dinath, while he is left once again standing alone. The enforced separation is difficult on Lex. He pushes himself harder in his work, and soon is granted the privileged of walking the tables to gain his journeyman's knot.

When Leela graduates, Lex is still a candidate. They attempt to rekindle their relationship, but while they both still care deeply for each other, the time apart has brought to them the realization that their love is more that of friends than that of lasting mates. Lex acted as the stand in for Leela during Dinath's first few flights, but she has since found a Chairo rider whose company she enjoys and Dinath has developed a liking for the man's dragon, so Lex is no-longer needed to keep away the men looking for a quick bedding.

When the old queen stepped down and Haruka and her Midori Nagith took on the leadership of the weyr, Lex felt a change coming over the weyr. The old queen had ruled a long time, and with the change in leadership would come changes in other things as well, perhaps even in his luck.

Age 20
Nagith lay twenty five eggs on the sands fter her first flight as the new senior queen, along with a green tinted Midori egg. Lex didn't care about the queen, beyond the common celebrations of having another within the weyr, for more queens were always a good thing. It was the other eggs which captivated him, which held his attention rapt, for one of them might contain the dragon he had waited so long for.
