Stepping into the conference room Essi lugged in her cleaning gear and looked around carefully. Only the older candidates were assigned this duty due to the information and people that passed through the room. This was her fifth time in this duty and she was beginning to get used to the random appearance or two of the Weyr Leaders. Itessi wanted the duty this time though in the hopes that she would meet the Weyrwoman. It had been bugging her lately that Haruka looked exactly like her older sister. As a child she had heard stories of how her sister had had a still born twin, but what if that wasn't the case? Haruka was a much stronger replica of her other sister and it was pulling at her thoughts constantly.
Organizing the maps and records she wiped the large table down and wondered what it would be like to be able to sit here at this very table. She as a girl had the chance to impress a queen but she didn't think that would be the case, so her chances of leading a wing or having a leadership position was slim. Her inner ambition didn't like it but she knew that as long as she could do something more with her life she would be happy. Besides she was determined that she would be of some use here no matter what her position. She could even become a harper for real if she didn't impress. She knew how to play instruments, sing, and write music so she had that option now that she was out of the Hold. Besides Rhia was here and they could find a way to do something together.
Life at the weyr was so different from life in a Hold and yet there were so many similarities. Rank and standing were based around dragon color and fighting status so she was at the bottom of the pole but at the same time at the top as a candidate with ultimate potential until impression. There were records and inventory and people running the place while others did the political thing. The difference here was that as a dragon rider you were perpetually useful no matter your rank and you were respected no matter what. The thought was so desirable.
Looking around at the dust she pulled out a rag and began to dust the shelves and records. Sneezing periodically and shaking her head she pulled the hides away from the door so the dust would travel out. To pass the time she began to sing one of the oldest songs she knew. The red star was their enemy and it's passing caused dragons and riders alike to rise up and take to the skies. It seemed fitting for the mood she was in and she enjoyed the chance to sing what she wanted instead of by request.
