Escape Attempt #208

The approaching man was one she hadn't seen often, but each time she saw him he was alone, at least she thought he was alone. He was a little taller than she, and probably out weighed her, but he was slim and she took that as she might be able to take him. He brother's words of not underestimating her opponent, but she wasn't paying attention to that little voice.

Then again, maybe she could pass herself off as a lost Weyrbrat and possible just get sent off toward some private weyr area. No, that wouldn't work, what Weyrbrat be unable to find their way around the Weyr. So it looked like she was back to fighting or outwitting the male.

Slowly, she stood out of the shadows, allowing herself to stand to her full height, though she was still shorter than him. "Good evening, sir. Is there a problem?" she asked, standing her ground, but trying to listen around her in case someone was walking along with this male at night.

Why is this guy just walking around outside at night? Seryn questioned herself, finally remembering some of what her brother had taught her. She would have been picked on mercilessly had her brothers been around, but for once she was glad they weren't. She didn't like his bored expression, something was off.

Not wanting to give away that she thought something was up, Seryn kept her eyes on him, watching his movements. One eye was focused on her . . . The other . . . "I don't like being ganged up on," she warned, mentally kicking herself for speaking, but there was nothing she could do now. For a moment, she didn't know which was more dangerous, the male before her, or whatever, or whoever, was behind her.

Of course, when he asked her why she was wondering around at night and what her name was, Seryn finally got wise and kept her mouth shut. By now her guards were bound to notice that she's gone and they'd come looking, or their dragons would be looking. She just had to stay standing until then.

As soon as he said that the creature is apart of you, Seryn knew she was in trouble. Dragons eyesight wasn't great, but they still came out at night. And the only other bonded creature was the . . . Whers. And sure enough, as soon as he introduced himself, Seryn knew he was a wherhandler.

As he bowed, he called out his wher. She was beautiful and very friendly, but that didn't win Seryn over. "You have to know that I'm going to try again, right?"

When a rumbling purr of a voice asked her to pet Feravosk, Seryn just looked down at the bouncing wher before turning glaring orbs on her bonded. How could she not just reach her hand out and pet this gorgeous beast? Why did she have to be so cold toward it? Because . . . A man like the one before her took her from her home and forced her to stay in a Weyr . . . Now she was in a different Weyr and was still a prisoner. All she wanted was her old life back.

She didn't care . . that he had . . . Oh who was she kidding, she did care, she was interested, but she held onto the pissed off look on her face and added a touch of a glare to her eyes. She couldn't show this man how she felt.

"I don't want to hear your story, just as the person who took me from my home didn't want to hear mine," she stated, even as hee mind suddenly jumped on the idea of her Impressing a Midori. Her mind sank it's little fangs into the idea and refused to let go. But her heart . . . Her heart was a little more, for once, sound in judging his words. "I'm sure you tell all the young girls that they could be on a Queen, if they just come with you and your kind," she spat, her words holding a lot of venom.

But she had more to say, just she couldn't make her mouth form the words. Here was this former Rider who had lost his dragon, but bonded with a wher after the fact, but wasn't forcing her right back into the gilded cage they called a barracks. Glancing behind the Handler, she could see the guards that had been placed to watch her coming toward them. Sighing, she glanced down at the where beside her. "Well . . . I guess its back to my cage for me and back to your watch with your pretty lady," she whispered for the where to hear before placing her hand just behind the eye ridge and her fingertips scratched for her. "Take care of your human, ok?" she asked as the Riders reached them. Neither looked happy, but she smiled at them anyway. Better to smile than cry.
