Jenesys waited with baited breath as the hatchlings finally reached the Candidates. Another crack caught his attention and he looked up in time to see a lovely Gin hatch from one of the eggs he remembered touching. Swallowing thickly he watched her as she approached, their eyes locking for a long moment before...she moved on. The only thing that kept him from breaking down into tears was that she hadn't rejected him because of what he was...but because of who he was. He wasn't her Bonded and after a moment he watched as the silver found Hers. Ophelia cooed softly licking and nuzzling into his cheek, his eyes watching the remaining eggs...there were still others...there was still a chance.

Orion watched the Aoi, he was a handsome creature and he wondered if he'd Impress to him...he couldn't remember if he'd touched this one...he was sure it was one of the larger eggs since it was one of the larger dragons. Their eyes locked for a moment and for a second he wondered if his red eyes would scare off a dragon, only to be rewarded by a growl before he moved off, his long tail striking his leg. He hissed at the physical strike before sighing offering the hatchling a nod as he was, at least, observant enough to notice he'd hit someone.

Jenesys watched the Aoi first hit the large albino candidate before watching Khetzar Impress the Aoi. He was happy for him...one of the first friends he'd made here in Sabishi and he was the first to Impress.

Kelyra's breathe caught at the sounds - Shells cracked and suddenly the room exploded! Voices rose, shells shattered, Dragonets stumbled out and candidates surged forward slightly. Kelyra was caught between the sudden chaos - her hunter's instinct telling her to run, to hide - to lay on the hot sands and lie still!

But it was the soft purple hues that filled Kelyra's vision - a baby Murasaki! It was beautiful - but awkward like a long legged wherry baby struggling for it's first steps. Oh! Mursaki cross impressed, didn't they? Maybe this one might choose her. Well probably not - but there was a maybe there. Enough to make Kelyra smile - and she found herself waving to the awkward new hatchling. Though it didn't take her long to realise she was the only one, so she stopped. Dragons weren't people. You didn't wave to them. They were predators - so maybe she ought to treat them like such? Approach slowly from behind, lift their tail and examine them. If they react well, stroke them slowly. If they react poorly, lift and secure the back of her head.

Dragon's weren't exactly tunnel snakes though. And they had claws you have to be careful of...

A second dragon caught her eye - his hide like beautiful dark foliage. A kurio she thought - only what did the green mean? Was two toned dragons a different type - there were so many! But green ment a Midori, a girl. And black was a Kurio? Was this some dark green? A boy? A girl?

The girl beside Kelyra seemed to offer some thought on the matter - and Kelyra found herself grabbing the girl, offering excited theory's on the strange egg. It hadn't been seperated - so it wasn't a Queen's egg she'd said. And they gushed over whether the creature was a boy or girl. The speculation continued as the black green made it's way slowly about.

Kelyra found herself feeling almost as many emotions as the dragon's had eye colors - excitement, nervousness... Jealousy for the lucky pair who already bonded... Particularly towards the Aoi. Dragon's shouldn't judge... They should be free to make their choices... They shouldn't be reigned in by impetuous young girls who thought they knew more than dragon's... Kelyra's cheeks flamed as she realized her own thoughts.

Then another dragon was moving - and excitement caught them all too much to notice her embarrassment.

Watching the beautiful babies hatch Essi stood next to the Dark Egg she had touched and connected with. It was so weird to think there may be a queen inside it. She had guessed that there was two queens but now? Looking as her friends stood around the sands she cheered happily for them as they impressed. It was so lovely to see the impression and the look of joy on each face. The mauling was frightening but not unheard of at a hatching so while she cringed she held her place. Seeing Rhia she waved ecstatically wishing her friend could be on the sands with her. To both impress and be riders together would be the most amazing thing for the young woman.

Rhia was one of her oldest and dearest friend and to have found her at the weyr had made her cry with joy. Life was coming together here if only she could impress and begin her journey to doing something more with her own being. Seeing the impressions were indeed beautiful but they set an ache in her heart that was so strong she clutched at her chest as she watched the eggs around her shake and make their presence known. She honestly wished to put her hands on the eggs in front of her to feel their minds and be reassured that they were still in there.

Looking at Zuri she smiled at the other girl nervously. "I wish they would all be out now and we just knew already." she said softly to the other girl. Looking at the giant queen hovering over the sands. She knew she would have to be calm for they would only hatch when ready.

Hmm? Rather than taking the time to explain, Karaith fed R'van the image of the damage left behind as the hatchlings moved through the candidate group. Chagrined, the Ginrider shook his head. I can't see that well up here. Serious?

I don't think so.

I'll wait until this is all over. Keep an eye on them for me. If things get serious I'm going down there to help, but otherwise, I'll just get in the way and maybe even get hurt myself.

(OOC - Feel free to NPC R'van coming down to help if things do "get serious" - just shoot me a PM if you end up using him this way.

It's in character for him to get involved, so if it's warrented, use the hell out of him. Can't guarantee I'll be all over this thread as it continues since I'm still going through some RL barf on and off...)

The Murasaki was still on the lookout, confindent that she would find hers, but she hadn't yet. She kept pacing the sands, nosing at Seryn, assisting the girl to stand if she needed it, but moved along after she was upright again.

The Kuroi Midori passed next to one section of girls, and he suddenly paused, sniffing the air. With a happy cheep, he turned and headed right to the Stands, knocking down Itessi in the process. He didn't care though. He had finally found his!

Rhia-mine! What are you doing all the way up there? Your Taviorth needs you down here!

Two more eggs hatch in quick succession, the Lightning and Metal, revealed to be a Kin and Dou, respectfully. They split off, the Dou heading towards the girls and the Kin towards the boys. Neither seems to have a good idea of who they are looking for yet.

The Kin was a lovely pale yellow, going even lighter on her ridges.

The Dou is a rich Antique Bronze tone, with a peculiar fade on his neck.

Kelyra's breathe caught - the beauty sun gold tones of the Kin was just... She couldn't help herself. "She's like someone poured the sun into her egg!" Liquid sunlight given form. Kelyra just didn't have words for something like that. Her nerves forgotten, she held out her hand for the creature. She'd seen the seen the others get hurt so easily - so innocently as the dragons just pushed past them. But she wanted to meet this beautiful dragon so much she didn't hesitate to put herself at risk. Even if only once, she wanted to meet the mind such a beautiful body!

To think that Kin were the most common of all dragons... Maybe she'd be so lucky to find one wanting to meet her one day? How could anyone - everyone, be so fearful of the weyrs? They needed more people to attend the hatchings - only then could you understand the majesty behind them all... If only everyone in Pern could touch those soft, curious minds.

Kelyra was surprised to find she was crying - happy, hot tears rolled down her cheeks. Their stains framed her smile - leaving no illusions for those who nearby noticed. Blinking hard she struggled to put that feeling into words. "I'm so glad I'm here! I never knew dragons were... So much more than dangerous predators. Their so beautiful... Everyone should see a hatching - how else could anyone ever understand?"

Servat stood still as the Aoi sniffed him up and down even though he had seen a few other candidates injured, but sighs as it moved on, Veronica held a baited breath as the Gin stopped at her, but she sighs as it went by. She gasped as the new ones hatched as did Servat. Veronica looks at Kelyra and says, "Oh I agree it does look like someone poured the sun into her egg; she's breath-taking."

Rhia could tell the moment Itessi spotted zher. Even from where zhe could see the grin on her face. Rhiasyn looked at the eggs, wondering what zher friend might impression. That Itessi might not impress was not something zhe thought would happen. Essi deserved a dragon, and to be bonded like that would be the ultimate escape of the things expected of a young noble woman. Essi would finally be free to be herself. Sure there would be a dragon who could see the potential in her.

The eggs began to crack and Rhia turned zher full attention back to them. A pretty Murasaki was first., a lovely deep soft lilac tone with a darker marking over her head. A handsome fellow was next, a Kuroi dark body with green patches over him. He was not the first chimera Rhiasyn had seen, for zhe was visually acquainted with the beauty of Ichigo-Kin Auraveth, but it still seemed unusual to zher to see a dragon who was part queen. The third egg was an Aoi, a dark fellow with bright blue toes. He seemed to be taking after his father, who was a rather dark aoi himself.

The noise of the sands was incredible, not just the physical, but the mental as well. Every dragon was speaking all at once, and the hatchlings cried out with mind as well as voice as they searched for their one. Rhiasyn could hear them in the moment when they first spoke to their chosen and the emotion of the moment made her eyes prickle with echoing feelings.

A pretty Gin was next, while the Aoi found his rider in one of the boys. The Gin found hers, and then Rhia watched as the Kuroi-Midori knocked Itessi over. Zhe wondered who he was seeking, because he had left all the of the proper candidates behind. Zhe had heard tales of dragons who picked their rider from the stands and Rhia looked about, seeking a face reacting to emotions not their own. The dragonling hadn't spoken yet, so Rhia did not have anything to go on.

Rhia-mine! What are you doing all the way up there? Your Taviorth needs you down here!

Oh For a short time that was all Rhiasyn could think. Because that down there, with the dark hide and the lopsided green patches, was zher Taviorth.

I'm not a candidate Taviorth Zhe spoke to the dragon as zhe got to zher feet, politely excusing zherself as zhe made zher way past those who had sat next to zher in the row. Even once zhe was in the isle, he had a way to go and Taviorth whined, trying to make it up the steps which would lead him to his rider. "Calm Tavi, I'm coming" Rhiasyn called to the dragon, hoping that a vocal call might sooth him better than a mental one.

As soon as zhe reached him, zhe knelt, wrapping zher arms around his small body, meeting his eyes with zher own. He had called to zher, but this was the moment when their minds made the full connection, and it overwhelmed Rhia for a time. The pureness of his love for zher, the calm and steady acceptance, that zhe was zhe and not anything else. That touch of wicked humour which would make her laugh in the turns to come. He was perfect and he made zher feel perfect too.

"Taviorth" Zhe whispered his name and he cooed softly, pressing his nose against zher stomach. I am hungry my Rhiasyn. Please let's find some food "Of course Tavi." Zhe said, the shortened name rolling easily off zher tongue. Zhe looked about, wondering where the food was. Zhe was not, had not been, a candidate and zhe did not know these things that surely a candidate would have been taught.

Eventually zhe spotted where the two others who had been chosen had gone and zhe stood leading Taviorth to where the food would be. Zher perfect boy was hungry and zhe must feed him.

Kelyra looked up and smiled, wrapping her arm through Veronica's in her excitement! "I really do wish I cpuld impress a beauty like her!" She stepped in close to Veronica, before confiding her fear "But I don't think a beauty like her would want me. I'm not... her type." But Kelyra didn't hold the same fear as she had when she came to the Weyr. Taking confidence from Haruka's words, she shone as she finished her thought "My dragon's waiting for me though. Even if I have to hunt through every Weyr in Pern."

Lifting her eyes from the beautiful Kin, Kelyra met Veronica's eyes to ask "Is there a dragon you're hoping to come find you?"

The Sunrise egg is the next one to hatch, revealing a chocolate brown Chairo, with lighter tan on his wings and all four feet. He wandered down the line of girls, pausing at Itessi, and giving her a light croon. He tilted his head and looked at her. He then turned and looked at the eggs, as one of the three that had been pulled aside by Nagith was rocking.

It was the Dark egg, and out spilled a sky blue hatchling, with a curious blue mask over his face, and fading into the same shade of blue down his body. What was strange was his build. Very feminine, and with a sense of regality to him. The dragonet ignored the boys entirely, instead making his way to the girls.

He stopped at Veronica, sniffing at her feet, but moved along. He paused for quite some time at Kelyra, even going so far as to nose her hand with his. But she wasn't his bonded. This curiously feminine dragon kept moving, examining each girl.

The Daylight egg hatched while the Dark hatchling was examining the girls. A pale silvery colored creature sat in the remininents of her shell, with a darker swatch across her neck, leading down to cover her belly. The Gin blinked, wandering over to the boys. She tripped and fell against the Sunset egg, causing it to crack open. The shell broke strangely though, and instead of a dragonet, out fell a half-formed beast. The smell was absoulutely horrid, causing many in the sands to retch.

Haruka quickly called forth some of the drudges to clean the mess up, and for a pair of dragons to take the still-born between There was a flurry of activity, confusing the young dragonets who had yet to find their bonded. The Chairo panicked, turned tail and ran, not leaving any sort of care for who or what got in his way. He knocked into the Shadow and Wood Egg, causing both to hatch earlier than their occupants expected. The Shadow Egg contained a deep red Ichigo, and the Wood contained a copper colored dragon, one that seemed far too big for the egg it came from.

The Chairo found his bonded in the stands as well, crying out V'ndo-mine, Help your Tentoth! Eww! It's so gross. He tried climbing the stairs to reach his bonded, Help! Help! the chairo yelped, fouling his wing on his foreclaw and stumbling back down into the sands.

Itessi was knocked over by one dragon as another rampaged and had a claw in her back as it went about the other candidates. She could feel blood flowing down her shoulder blades and knew she had been mauled deeply. This over course didn't fully stop her from cheering when Rhia impressed the chimera dragon that had been the first to knock her down. "Good job Rhia!" Trying not to wince terrible as she sat up the smell of the broken egg had her holding back a heave. Pushing to her feet she swayed as blood continued to push down her spine. The back of her robes ripped at the shoulders and staining red in a line down.

Reeling a bit she grabbed onto the nearest person as the Chairo crooned at her. "It's okay little one it's just a scratch do not be afraid. You have a very important friend to find." she tried to smile but ended up sliding to the ground again. The hot sands forcing her back up before she had burns on her knees as well. The Aoi was headed her way as well and it was a beauty. It was Aoi so she knew it must be male but it seemed so feminine, beautiful and regal. "What a lovely creature." she whispered as she stood unsteady on her feet. She hated blood but knew that as soon as the hatching was over she would be tended, after all it couldn't be that bad right? Besides if she moved she may miss her chance to impress. The girl solidified her will and stood where she was. Pale and determined she looked at the two dragons near her.

Climber was crooning frantically in the stands at a healer sending images of his rider being seriously injured and trying to bite and swipe at him to come take care of his. She was clearly far more hurt than the silly girl would admit so it was Climber's duty to take care of the giant girl creature that was his. How could she go and let one of his clumsy cousins hurt her? She was more important than they were and almost as important as Climber so this was just unacceptable.

Now that he was on the sands, Lex found himself feeling strangely calm. This was something familiar to him, standing, waiting for dragon eggs to hatch and while he was still restless, it was not as bad as it had been in this past sevenday. He was always restless though, terrible at just sitting still and doing nothing, so even now he was moving, shifting his weight on his feet and making mental bets with himself about what would hatch from each egg and who might impress to what.

The Murasaki who was the first to hatch was a pretty lass, and Lex considered it a good sign that one of the mid sized dragons had hatched first. Not as good as if it had been one of the bigger colours, but still a good sign for the strength of the clutch. Though really, a healthy dragon in general was a good sign for the clutch and the Murasaki certainly seemed to be that.

The purple toned female walked near him and though Lex moved back a little to get out of her way, he still got caught by a claw as she moved past, scratching a line into his arm. It wasn't deep, but it was bleeding. He grimaced and debated if it was bad enough to be worth signalling a healer or not. It wasn't bleeding badly or anything though, so he wasn't worried about it.

Lex's good health would not last long however. For while he was inspecting his arm several other eggs had hatched, with a pretty Gin knocking into one of the mid sized eggs and cracking it open, a foul smelling half-grown thing slipping out onto the sands. The Chairo who had hatched only moments earlier panicked, though if it was at the sight of the stillborn egg or at the sudden influx of people who came to clear it away, Lex could not say, breaking open other eggs and then running over candidates in his heedless flight. Ailexyan was one of several who were caught in the Chairo's unthinking chaos.

Though he had tried to step out of the way of the deep brown creature, Ailexyan had not been fast enough. He was knocked over, twisted by the force to land on his stomach and then trampled over by the baby dragon. Claws tore through the fabric of his robe without effort, then slicing through the skin beneath. Some of the wounds were only superficial, but others were deep and all bleed, staining the tattered shreds of his robe a brilliant red. There were a few marks on his front too, from the initial collision which had knocked him about, and the heat of the sands burned against them. His head spun and Ailexyan found himself unable to think clearly.

As soon as all the hatched dragons had their bearings, somewhat, they were off. The Murasaki cut someone with her wingtips and the Chimera KuroiMidori, that was sniffing near the girls, became fearful in his search for His that he ran over Seryn, opening her leg a little in long claw marks. The pain hurt, but she didn't hold the wound against the dragon. He was scared. Luckily it wasn't bad but it took her a few moments to get up. She could hear Devil screaming, which meant someone was holding him to keep him off the Sands. She would have to get something for whoever was being clawed up by her flit just to keep him from defending her.

She felt a warm breath on her neck and turned to find the young Murasaki standing behind her, gently nosing her. With the young dragons aid, she was able to stand and luckily put weight on her injured leg. She would have to have it looked at after she left the Sands, but for the moment, she could ignore the pain and blood to wait for her dragon. "Thank you," she whispered to the Murasaki as she went off to find her bonded.

A flurry of activity happened so quickly. Dragon after dragon hatched and she watched with baited breath. One of those could be her's. But none came her way, but there were still so many on the Sands. Tears ran down her face and she openly cried when the stillborn dragon was knocked from it's egg by one of the new Gins. The poor thing. However, it was quickly cleaned up and the stillborn was taken between and the action was back on. But that didn't stop to worry about what if the stillborn had been her dragon? What if it hadn't felt her want to be at the Weyr, with it, and something went wrong?

A lot of stuff had happened. Dragons hatching, Candidates getting mauled, Impressions being made. He and Nyrr bowed their heads when the stillborn dragon was taken away, but other than that it was pretty normal for a Hatching.

The Chimera was new, but even after hurting a few Candidates, he found His in the Stands. Suddenly, Vorendo heard a cry that he had never heard before. V'ndo-mine, Help your Tentoth! Eww! It's so gross. When he looked over the edge of the Stands, he found a Chairo trying to climb up the Stands wall. Help! Help!

That had him moving. The drop from the Stands to the Sands, from where he was, wasn't to bad. so with Nyrr safely in the arms of the person next to him, Vorendo hefted himself up and over the small railing and dropped down onto the Sands. The moment his feet touched the hot Sands, it all came flooding back to him. He was past the age of being a Candidate, so he had thought he would never feel the hot sands beneath his feet again. Or the rush that being on them caused. Pushing those thoughts from his mind, he rushed over to his Chairo's side and examined the wing he had injured trying to get to him. "You didn't have to try and climb up there, Tentoth. I will always come to you whenever you call for me," he whispered, looking into those swirling orbs.

"I have waited for you for a very long time, my new friend," he stated, helping the dragon to his feet while helping support the injured wing. May we have some food now, V'ndoMine? I'm really hungry . . . and my wing hurts . . . but I'm really hungry, he heard in his mind, causing Vorendo . . . no V'ndo . . . to smile. "Yes young one. But we'll also get your wing looked at while you eat," he stated, walking off the Sands with the Chairo.

A loud bellow from Nagith stopped everyone in their step, the babies all turning to look at their mother. She didnt say anything, just snorted, drawing their attention back to the hatching sands.

The Murasaki, Kin, and smaller Dou that had been wandering around finally settled, each choosing a person. (NPC Impressions)

The Aoi from the Dark egg moved down the line of girls, finally stopping at Itessi.

Why there you are Itessi. The voice coming from the Aoi instantly explained his, no her, appearance and actions. The voice was most definitely female. I am Kazith. She said. Come Itessi. Your new life begins now.

The Ichigo from the Shadow egg wandered among both the boys and the girls. He paused, sniffing at the feet of Anjeerill, staying around him for quite some time.

The Dou wandered among the boys as well, looking at Servat, and then Jenesys, but neither were his, and he moved along.

The Crystal egg caused a bit of a stir as it hatched into two Kin. They were visual opposites of each other, one being a dappled dark gold with a light underside, and it's sibling was lighter gold with the dark dappling on the underside.

The pair stuck together as they examined the candidates, squabbling near constantly as when one found a bonded they liked, the second hated them. This looked like it would be a hard pair to match.

Kelyra's breathe caught as the sky blue Aoi came near. "Veronica! An Aoi? But their..." Her voice ran quiet as the beautiful creature started up the line of confused girls. When he came to Veronica, she hesitantly held out a hand - wanting to touch the creature. But he only stayed long enough to sniff her feet. Then he was watching her. "Veronica! What do I do?" She whispered, glancing at the other girl hopeful. Their eyes met - curious whirling eyes meeting the nervous excitement shining within her own. Offering out her hand, she grinned when he touched her. But... But she never heard his voice. She never felt the magic she expected - that she suddenly longed for. Instead she felt their minds brush, a softness she wanted to keep, but fleeting. Just as fleeting as their skin meeting. And then he was moving on.

Disappointment and excitement crashed through Kelyra. She wanted a dragon so much - And this Aoi had stopped before her for so long... It had to be twice as long as anyone else! Could that be it? Could she be a good rider - for a boy dragon? Would that matter? Would her name become Kel'ra or K'lyra? The Kin & Dou didn't mind what gender they picked? Maybe she'd meet a nice Dou then? Or even one of the larger colors? There had already been two Aoi's... So this was a strong clutch - wasn't it? There were so many colors...

An Awful wind pulled her up - rotted egg & meat... She knew the smell. Dead wherry eggs sometimes spilled out such smells. But this was more intense. Whirling, her eye's fell on the dead mess of an egg - and she understood. She'd suspected... That egg was the one people had said hadn't been right. It was already dead...

Then chaos. People from the stands came down onto the sands - dragons flew to catch the dead creature. They vanished - only to return seconds later without the body. Nagith was uneasy - her dead child and the stranger's near her hatching clutch... Dragon's broke free from their eggs. People yelled. There was blood. A rush. Kelyra wasn't thinking - she darted around the other girls, throwing herself onto the sands as a hatchling barreled through them. More were coming, their eyes whirling with confusion. Kelyra awkwardly pulled herself up. She was off center, her heavy steps sinking low into the sands. Heat spilled over her sandals as she found herself near the clutch. It was hot. Wilde's concern filled her mind with images. The dead dragon... Candidate's with red stained robes falling. Herself - red staining one torn sleeve. She was bleeding?

Her inspection was cut by the sudden bellow from Nagith. Kelyra felt battered by the roar - almost falling over from it. She was too near the clutch. Hot air seemed to swirl and shift about her. But the noise seemed to settle some. Dragon's moved past her. She needed to move as well. If she stayed... Something was wrong if she stayed. Thoughts slipped quickly from her mind in this heat - but she started taking steps. Slowly she stepped towards the candidates, moving behind two quarreling hatchlings. She stayed well back from the clumsy pair, matching their awkward pace. The heat seeping at strength all the while. There was something wrong with the candidates. A line of boys she realized. But she had to move away from the clutch- away from the riled Nagith. Safety. She just had to stay behind the hatchlings and she would be fine. Step slowly, keep your chest low. Bend the knees. Her father's words filling her thoughts now. How to walk behind... beside predators. It was so hot on the sands.

Kelyra's face was pale as she joined the start of the Boy's line. She stood nearest the clutch, one hand gripping her other arm. Red stained her skin and sleeve - but she hadn't realized it hurt yet. Her feet seared - but trying to hop from foot to foot only made her dizzy. Wilde's concerned still crashed into her thoughts - but she hushed the Queen. Her resolution filled her thoughts. She was strong - as strong as any boy. She could do this. For now she could continue to stand. Her eye's hardened with conviction as she pushed back at the dizziness. She would stand.
